Busy Busy Busy

This weekend got off to a pretty amazing start!  Oh poop, it is almost over!

I got done with work at 6:15!  I honestly think it is a first to be done that early on a Thursday in a VERY long time.  I won't lie, I HAD to be out of there by 6:15....even taking a 2 hour lunch limited me to an early close.  WOOT!  I got home and was able to start making some pretty delicious dark chocolate brownies with peanut butter and chocolate chips!  Rachel brought over some tiny 99cent Eddy's ice cream cups and some great news!  Not one, not two, BUT THREE new people may join our "book pair" as her brother likes to call it.  We talked over Emma for about an hour when she made the motion to: "Never watch a movie based on the book before we actually finish the book."  We had watched Clueless the previous movie night and she felt it somehow spoilt the book since she knew what was going to happen.  I then chuckled, agreed, and pointed out I had Bridget Jones's Diary that we still had not watched - it turned into movie night.  We ate ice cream and brownies and swooned over Mr. Darcy.  Umm, who wouldn't?

We then parted for the night.  I was all set to go to my aunt's with my sister for a scrap booking weekend.  I got a call late in the afternoon letting me know that my aunt was in the hospital with an infection in her hand!  Elisabeth and I ended up going for a run/walk.  We then went to see Dark Shadows with Rachel!  It was pretty awesome.  We weren't expecting it to be quite so gruesome, but it was still rather funny.  There's nothing really to say more about the movie, just a classic Tim Burton film mixing the comical and grotesque.  I got home to watch the Brewers in their 13 inning game...finally ending in a win!

Yesterday, I was finally able to pull my sister away from home to go buy our mother's day present for our mom.  I also bought a kayak carrier and a life vest so I can take my kayak out.  We went through the drive through car wash to get rid of all the nasty bird poop on my car (Yay for parking under a tree), got $6 in quarters back from the machine, and still, after it all, had chunks of bird poop stuck to my car (>.<).  We then went to check the Redbox for a good movie.  We didn't find anything.  Rachel then came over and we looked at a different Redbox and found a Colin Farrell movie: London Boulevard. It was a rather interesting movie, very violent, and had a horrible ending.  He was so close...so close.  Rachel's comment:  "That was the ending?!?  I had to look at completely unnecessary boobs for that?!? Well, I guess if you already have the R rating, you may as well go all out for it and through in some topless waitress that just leans into shot."

All these movies in and I've still found time to read 2 books and shop.  I'm such an awesome girl, guess I learned it from my mom.  HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Tinkering

Wow, I feel rushed to write something. I recovered my chair the other day and it looks fantastic! I am so excited that it is dry and I can take it home! I also worked the book sale and got myself a whole bag of books for just 2 bucks. I got the whole Black Adder series for just $0.50. Book sales are fantastic.

I was flipping back and forth between the game and my movie, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Unfortunately, we were sucking so badly that I just watched the movie. It was a very interesting movie. I had a bit of a hunch as to who the mole was of the bunch. Did I mention, I love Tom Hardy. Add him and Colin Firth to a movie - whoa. Colin Firth is just fantastic. So is Gary Oldman. His characters are always so well done and this was no exception. He got me interested in the life of a very dull man: himself, George Smiley. It was really quite an intense film and I really liked the way the story was told. I was a little confused for a while about the spy who got shot - is he alive still, is this a flash back story, are him and that guy really lovers or just best friends? I want to know these things! For some reason, the name Smiley makes me think of something else...mainly, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold.

Sainted Shakespeare

I didn't get much reading, besides the most recent issue of Glamour, done this weekend. I attempted Emma some more on the bus, but that was just making me car sick. I had to switch to the lighter reading of Glamour.

I did get a ton of books and a few movies at Half Price Books. I also spent so much, that I got a free calender and some coupons! YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Some movies I'm just going to say that you have to see are: St. Trinian's and The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged by the Reduced Shakespeare Company.

Commander and Chief

My dear, dear, dear, dear Colin Firth isn't quite knighted...but he has been named the Commander of the British Empire. Not really surprising since he has recently played the Queen's father. He is such a fantastic guy and he isn't too far off from being knighted. I think the Queen would be remiss in not adding him to the list of knighted actors. I mean...she added Sean Connery and he's not even close to the best James Bond! I do have to say though, I respect him for making her knight him in Scotland. That was pretty cool. Anyways, I am off to bed since I have to be leaving the house by like 5am!

All Because of a Stupid Picture

I watched the recent, 2009, movie version of Dorian Gray. The movie was really good - with actors like Ben Barnes, Colin Firth, and Ben Chaplin. Dorian (Ben Barnes) comes to London and meets Basil (Ben Chaplin), a painter, and than Colin Firth's character, Lord Henry, was basically the devil. Lord Henry decides to take young Dorian under his wing and teach him the type of lifestyle he wished he could lead - all pleasure. Basil paints a stunning portrait of Dorian and in a discussion on living forever - Dorian says he would choose that. He eventually discovers what has happened and begins guarding his painting as if it were the most precious thing on the face of the earth. The portrait takes on the scars, disease, and corruption of his character; becoming more and more disgusting by the day. He leaves to explore and when he finally returns home, he decides that he wants to start living life correctly. Lord Henry becomes quite put off when some of Dorian's bad habits begin to affect him and he begins to piece together parts of the puzzle.

I really like this movie overall. It was a little awkward to see "Prince Caspian" , as I know Ben Barnes, screwing just about everything that moved. There were some other rather graphic scenes as well that were quite disturbing. It was a really well done movie - with some great, if not disturbing, imagery. I was a little confused by the idea of Dorian Gray being a character by an aesthete - Oscar Wilde. Art is beauty for the sake of beauty in the world and no "moral to the story" works were considered. This is interesting since Dorian is beauty for beauty's sake and yet his life of pleasure makes and ugly "soul"/portrait. I saw a larger than life moral to the story with the life of Dorian Gray. His body and charm and lifestyle might seem beautiful, but his soul and mind are degenerated to a state of putrescence. I might actually have to get the book out and see how similar the movie is to the story before I pass too much judgement.
