So I totally forgot on Sunday to write about going and seeing The Vow on Friday night with my sister. I'll spare a large explanation because I am assuming the majority of us have been bombarded with the preview - it is only Valentine's Day and The Vow is supposed to be romantic. It is about a couple that gets into an accident and the wife forgets her husband. In fact, she forgets all of her life right up until the point where she breaks off all ties with her family. The whole rest of the movie is the couple trying to work things back out. I would not say this movie is very romantic. It isn't like Never Been Kissed, where you have that happy, almost giddy, feeling by the end. Nope, you just kind of feel depressed. Not One Day depressed and not Never Been Kissed happy. Lost in the middle.
I did finish reading Mansfield Park this weekend. It was a really good story. I'm happy I listened to it instead of reading it - I love Austen, but I tend to only fall asleep on her novels. While there is supposed to be a theory about retention when you sleep on your books, it just isn't any fun explaining away the drool stains later on :D Fanny is a deeply shy and proper girl - taken in and raised by her wealthy relatives, falls for a man she can't have, is forced upon another man whom she does not like, must stand by and watch and listen as her love tells her all about his love, gets sent to live with her family again, get accepted back at the park when tragedy strikes the family...and as all Austen goes, she gets what she truly deserves in the end.
I haven't tried anything new recently. I had a very awkward doctor the other day who had a piece of hair sticking up and out of place. He also asked me not to breath at all as he looked up my nose and down my throat. He did look like Ben Lovette though - that did rather help me stifle my giggles about the almost Alfalfa like spike of hair he had sticking up.
And since it is Valentine's Day, I'll finish with True Love :D

Back Track and Hack
I have to go back and remark on a few things.
A) Oh, the phallic symbols in Ironclad. The pushy baron's wife that is in love with the Templar knight - she walks in and puts her hand on his sword! The next time she comes to see him in his "room," he's rubbing down his sword...guess what happened next! Yup, that vow didn't hold up.
Pst - She's about to touch his phallic symbol.
B) The big brute of a guy in Ironclad, he hacks away at this one guys arm...until it comes off. Now, I'm not in the heat of the battle here, but if I were on a force of less than 20 men against a 1000 man army - I wouldn't waste time to completely hack a guy's arm off. The first one went to the bone - shove him to the side and be done...he's gonna die of blood loss. If you really wanted to make sure the job was done - hit him in the neck. Don't waste so much valuable time and energy to sever the arm. It was pretty interesting that another guy picked up the arm and beat a guy to death with it.
C) Back to the book, One Day. The book was really good. I spent the majority of the time laughing. It was so full of awkward situations that would suck if you were in them, but looking in at the situation - you are able to laugh. The book is mostly about Emma and Dexter growing up and together throughout the years. They go through hard times, good times, times apart, time to figure out who they are and what they want. I don't know if it was how the book was written and how differently it is to see something happen as opposed to reading about it, but I hardly blinked when "the bad thing happened." (Don't want to spoil it). The ending of the movie was much more depressing and less hopeful than the book. I thought this book was beautifully written - it had the tragic and the exhilarating moments in life: things everyone goes through and things you hope to God you never have to experience. It was a very true to life kind of book - it didn't have a perfect ending, it didn't have the perfect life lived, it didn't bother to sugar coat life.

Wow - that sucked
So One Day - that movie that I REALLY wanted to see...with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess (two people I LOVE) - DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE ON A GIRLS WEEKEND...unless you want your weekend to go from fun to absolutely depressing. It was fun - we went at 10 in the morning and there was only one other person in the theater...a man. But we giggled and had fun and put our feet up on the rail; that was until DEPRESSION comes at you like a lorrie from the right. Bloody lorries! It made me miss Edinburgh and Paris quite a bit to add to the depression factor. I do have to say though, Anne Hathaway's Scottish accent was pretty horrible! There were flashes of it being Scottish and then it was just kind of "sorta Englishy."
Anyway - the story is of two people Dexter (Jim Sturgess) and Emma (Anne Hathaway). They meet up again on graduation night, almost "do it," end up deciding to not "do it" and just be friends. The following day is St. Swithun's Day and from that day on, July 15 is a day where they usually meet up again in some way or another. It follows them from 1988 to 2011 and there friendship goes from good to great, to not so hot, to dead, to rekindled and so on. There friendship with each other makes them. One of the characters says to Dexter: "She made you decent and in return you made her so happy."
It was a fantastic movie, just horribly depressing and not fitting a celebratory weekend. This is a - I want to sit down and bawl my eyes out kind of movie. Go prepared with lot of tissues and waterproof mascara! I don't know if I can bring myself to read the book now, despite the fact that I am on the holds list for it at the library.
